Anal glands

 

Anal glands problems is an common problem with dogs.  A dog has 2 anal glands, these are litle smell glands, who are hide in the contractor of the anus. Wolfs have a special smell on their faeces produced by the anal glands, this was to  Bij wolven gaven de anaalklieren de ontlasting een speciaal geurtje, to beacon the territory. This function is lost with many of our house dogs, and it could give a lot of problems when the anal glands are full. The glands will be not empty enough, the The fluid wil become tick and hard, or it wil be infected, because there can be exuberant bacterium growth. Moastly be recognised to a yellow/red pus. Or an abcess, you see this often after an infection with a hugh swelling, after the break through the pus will come out. A problem wilth an abcess can be that the dog can not hold his faeces. This is because the damage of nerves and muscles.

Often you see dog riding on their behind if they have full anal glands, also will they lick and bite around the tail , sometimes till its bleeds. Dogs can not empty their own anal glands.


Dogs can also get an anal gland-abcess (a boil). The anal gland will be infected and is full of pus. If the abcess is not broken, than you can see an awful painfull swelling around the anus. If the anal gland is broken, you see a small leak with blood and pus.

 

Threatment

the veterinary can empty the anal gland from the inside in the anus. It is not pleasant for a dog. Moast of the time emptying the anal glands is effective enough. If the anal glands are infected they have to clean the glands, than the dogs do get anestetics.

I had also a sheltie who had very often full anal glands, since she is on Raw Food, she has never had full anal glands anymore. So if You give you're dog something to eat, what gives a heard faeces, you're problem will be solved by it selfes.
