Dental tartar &Teeth care

Dental tartar causes many teetproblems. By thick dental tartar can the tartar come on to the gums and that's causes infections from the gums or other problems like cariës. You don't see often holes in the teeth of our dogs.

The dental tartar starts with a soft coat of food and saliva, that stay attach on the teeth. Through this proces the teeth come into a hard yellow till brown layer of caries. This is calcify.

The dental tartar exist moastly on the transition from teeth till gums. Dental tartar can be the cause of a chronical infection of the gums. If the gums are infected they are looking red and swollen. When the dental tartar is still soft, you can clean the teeth easy through brushing you're dogs teeth every day.

Dental tartar is going always down the teeth, and get attached under the gums, through this proces the gums will be pulled back and the gums are getting infected and the dog will be smelling out of his maul. An infection can affect the root of the tooth, and it could change in abcess.

The moast common threathment of an infection of the gums are pulling the teeth who are causing the problems. The dogs teeth will be cleaned, and the dental tartar will be removed and the dentist take care of the teeth, the teeth will be very slippery so that the tartar can not be attached again to the teeth. After the treathment the teeth do get a new layer of artificial enamel.

Prevention is the best thing with dental tartar. Better is to give hard food instead of soft food. Give you're dog something to chew on. Do learn you're puppy from the begining to brush his teeth. Start brushing when the tooth and gums are still healthy. You can use a childtoothbrush they are soft. Never brush you're dogs teeth with a hard toothbrush. You can use also a gauze over you're vinger and than move softly over you're dogs teeth. There is also dogtoothpasta, never use human toothpasta, dogs can not get rid of the foam (on human toothpasta). It is not really necessarily to brush with puppies, but you can learn them accept the toothbrush at that age.

2. Use allways a good toothbrush and dogtoothpasta

A good toothbrush for you're dog is a toothbrush with soft hairs, childrens toothbrushes are always soft, or you can choose a electrick tootbrush. You're vet has always complete dental care seths for you're dog (toothbrush with toothpasta for dogs). If you use a toothbrush for you're dog, you get the dental tartar much faster away than when you use a gauze.

If you use for you're dog a toothbrush, don't use it to long, and buy once in a period a new one. Dog toothpasta's have real great taste for dogs, like chicken. A dog will accept that sooner than a toothpasta without any delicious taste.

3. Repeat toothbrushing all the time and give you're dog lots of compliments if they are doing it fine.
Let you're dog get use to a toothbrush, and repeat the brushing from his teeth. If you neglected the brushing for a long time, you're dog will not be used to it anymore, and you have to learn it again all over.

What to do if you're sheltie already has dental tartar?

If you have a dog who has allready dental tartar, you can go to the vet for dental care. But you can also learn older dogs to get used to the toothbrush, it can be just a bit difficult to learn them. If the dog is not used to anything you can learn them first that you want to look at his teeth. If he accepts this you can go further. Let him smel to the toothbrush with dog toothpaste. The dog wil like the smel and taste of the toothpaste. Try later on to brush the teeth. After brushing the teeth you can put a layer toothpaste on the teeth of you're dog, the dental tartar wil be  neutralize faster.

You can get scalers for the teeth of you're dogs, they are in the dogstores available, to remove the dental tartar. Be carefull if you use a scaler, because you can destroy the enamel on the teeth of you're dog. Than the teeth are not protected anymore.
