Whitefactored or White Coloured?

When is a sheltie whitefactored?

Whitefactored is not always visible, moast of the time you can see that a sheltie is whitefactored. Whitefactored Shelties you can recognize on the white spotted colour, that is on the legs behind that reach to the knees or comes above the knees. This can be on the inside our on the outside of the legs.

Sometimes it happens that Shelties who are not Whitefactored get puppys that are White coloured, this has nothing to do with the withefactor, but the Piebald Factor.

How do you recognize a White coloured Sheltie?

A white coloured Sheltie, has much white and less colour. A White Coloured Sheltie is not easy to give in proportional, the place where the white is will tell us if the Sheltie is Whitefactored or White Coloured. A Sheltie with only a white band, with white feets behind and a white tailpoint and a white spot on the back, is White Coloured.

A Sheltie with a wide white band, whit a wide white collar, white frontlegs and behind white feet, without such a white spot on the back, is not Varigated. The Gen S is responsible for the spotted Sheltie, (Gen S is not spotted), allthough it could be that more gen are responsible for this.

In the earlier days in the Netherlands they had this destruction:
Type A:
Has only a big white breast spot and eventual white feet. About 12 % white.
Type B:
Smal collar, much white on breast and frontlegs and on the tailpoint, about, 25 % white.
Type C:

Has a wide white collar who and much white on the breast and you see the white in one line to the frontlegs. Also the tailpoint is white, about 35 % white.
Type D:
Just like C + white on the underside of the body, about 50 % white.
Type E:
White with some coloured spots on the body and a coloured head. (Piebald). about 80 % white.
Type F: Only a coloured head. About 93 % white.
Type G:
All over (100 %) white. Dogs with white spotts in the colour we call Skewbalds.
Type H:

This type could be tollerated, but the proportional white would not be valeud. If you want to breed with such a dog, you get problems, because he gives it over to the litter and will be not palmed in.

How do you get White Coloured Shelties?

White Coloured Shelties comes out of combinations from 2 whitefactored hereditaring Shelties.

Do have White Coloured puppies have more healthproblems than other normal puppies?

White Coloured puppies out of a "Whitefactored" combination are not less healthy than the "normal" coloured brothers and sisters. These Shelties have only to much white for the breeding standard in the Netherlands. The White Coloured kan be a variation of a white spot on the back till almoast complete white with a few spots on the body, or just one white spot on the back.

This sheltie is one sheltie of group E

There are puppies from a whitefactored combination, but also white Coloured Shelties out of a blue merle x blue merle combination. In the Netherlands is the combination blue merle x blue merle higly unrecommended. The puppies who are born from this combination, and who are white or white coloured do have moastly problems with their health. The moast seen problem is deafness and blindness. Few of these puppies don't survive the first few weeks.
